9"x13" Acrylic on Panel Via Mizner, Palm Beach I have been reading Charles Hawthorne'sbook Hawthorne on Painting, and I'm finding myself underlining the whole book, which would kind of defeat the purpose for future reference, right? But it's hard to restrain myself. The man was a well spring of refreshing thoughts and quotes on painting. Summing up his philosophy of painting, he said this: "Painting is just like making an after dinner speech. If you want to be remembered, say one thing and stop." and my new favorite:
"Study by doing fresh starts and stopping when you tire. If you get it into your head that you do not have to finish a thing then you will be able to stop while it is still right."
